Manufacturing activity shrinks again

7:47 pm on 14 October 2010

Activity in the manufacturing sector contracted for the second month in a row in September.

The BNZ-Business New Zealand Performance of Manufacturing Index fell 1.7 points to 47.1.

A reading below 50 indicates the sector is contracting.

BNZ economist Doug Steel says, however, that while the overall index is flat, there are some encouraging signs for growth.
