Hearing consent for proposed Buller mine adjourned

1:37 pm on 23 June 2011

A resource consent hearing for Bathurst Resource's proposed coal mine in the Buller district on the West Coast has been adjourned.

Bathurst is seeking to construct an open cast mine in the area, producing up to two million tonnes of export coal per year.

It says the hearing has been adjourned so potential draft terms and conditions for the resource consents can be circulated for comment.

The hearing will resume later, before the final addresses and the hearing close.

Bathurst says it does not know when the commissioners' findings will be handed down.

It plans to spend $65 million developing the mine which would provide 250 jobs.
