Consumer confidence holds steady

Consumer confidence appears to be holding steady, despite worries about the European debt crisis.

ANZ-Roy Morgan's monthly consumer confidence index fell less than half a point to 112.2 in October.

A reading above 100 shows optimism.

ANZ chief economist Cameron Bagrie says the results are encouraging given the global situation and preceding months in which the index has been "flatlining".
