Chinese airline launches daily Guangzhou/Ak service

China Southern Airlines has launched daily flights from Guangzhou to Auckland in a move that is expected to boost the New Zealand economy by $100 million.

It started flights to Auckland on three days a week in April but has now more than doubled the service due to increased demand.

Chief executive of Tourism New Zealand Kevin Bowler says the announcement of the daily service is really significant for New Zealand and will will benefit the tourism, trade and education sectors.

He says China has been a growing market for New Zealand for a number of years and this will consolidate and increase that growth.

The state-owned China Southern Airlines was established in 2002 and is the world's fifth largest airline
