Contact Energy's customer numbers rose slightly in October.
Monthly operational figures show it had 441,000 electricity customers at the end of the month, 1500 more than at the end of September.
The company gained an extra 500 gas customers and 500 LPG customers.
Over the year, Contact lost 28,500 electricity customers, due to changes mandated by the Government to promote competition and many players in the electricity market cutting prices to attract users.
Total generation fell slightly, from 924 to 901 gigawatt hours in October, while total electricity purchases rose from 731 to 712 gigawatt hours.
