Bathurst Resources has exported its first shipment of coal from the Cascade mine in the Buller region of the South Island.
The shipment left Westport over the weekend bound for the Port of Taranaki, where it will be unloaded and become part of a larger shipment to a customer in Asia.
Existing storage and loading facilities at Westport were used.
Another shipment, which left the site three weeks ago, is expected to leave the Port of Lyttelton in containers later this week.
This trial parcel of very low ash coal from Cascade is bound for a ferro-silicon producer in Western Australia.
Bathurst's shares hit a year low of 74 cents each last month. They are currently trading at 80 cents per share.
