Airline long haul passengers down

12:28 pm on 15 December 2011

Air New Zealand's patronage fell in November, with long-haul routes particularly hard hit.

The airline carried 1 million passengers in November, 1.1% less than in the same month last year.

Domestic patronage slipped 0.7%, but trans-Tasman Pacific passenger numbers rose more than 4%.

Long haul passenger numbers were down 12% on last year, with the North America UK route down more than 10%.

The airline says the effects of the Christchurch and Japan earthquakes continue to affect passenger numbers on the Japan routes.

Shares in Air New Zealand have fallen 0.5 cents to 88.5 cents.
