Market rises at start of new week

The New Zealand sharemarket has started a new week up, with the NZX50 index rising 12 points to 3307. Turnover was $52 million.

Among the major share movements, Fletcher Building was up 9 cents at $6.63, Telecom rose 2 cents to close at $2.115, Chorus gained 5 cents to $3.30, and Contact Energy was up 5 cents to $4.82.

Sky City Entertainment shed 1 cent to $3.56 and Sky Network TV was up 10 cents to $5.25.

Auckland Airport was down 2 cents at $2.46, The Warehouse was down 3 cents at $3.04 and Kathmandu was down 5 cents to $1.56.

Vector gained 2 cents to $2.68 and Restaurant Brands was unchanged at $1.98.

Refining NZ gained 5 cents to $2.79.

Rakon was down 3 cents to 64 cents after the NZX asked for an explanation into its share price spike in between 4 and 27 January.

Opus International Consultants was up 4 cents to 1.81.

In currency markets, at 5.20pm on Monday the NZ dollar was buying 82.06 US, 77.45 Australian, 52.22 pence, 62.93 yen and 0.6226 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 72.18.
