Bathurst has signed an agreement with Port Taranaki to build a storage shed for coal exports from Westport.
The area is located alongside a deep water berth where vessels can easily load and unload coal and is large enough to allow for future expansion.
Bathurst chief executive Hamish Bohannan says the agreement is a significant milestone for the Buller coal project.
