Jobs cut as nickel price falls

7:23 am on 2 February 2012

A fall in the value of nickel has led BHP Billiton to cut 155 jobs from its Nickel West operation in Western Australia.

The ABC reports the jobs include staff and contractors with most of the positions based in Perth.

BHP says production will not be suspended at its Mount Keith open pit in the state's northern goldfields, but it will reduce the rate of mining at the site by 30% for the next 12 months.
