Wall Street is enjoying another rally after chain-store sales and labour data boosted optimism.
The Dow Jones Index on Thursday was up 46 points, to 12,998. The Nasdaq Composite was up 26 points, to 2913.
The FTSE 100 in London climbed 1.02% to 5931. The DAX in Frankfurt was up 1.25% and the CAC-40 in Paris was up 1.37%.
Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 Index closed down 43 points at 4255. And the NZX 50 closed up 8 points at 3330.
At 8.16am on Friday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 83.90 US cents, 77.70 Australian cents, 52.58 pence, 68.10 yen and 0.6320 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 73.85.
Brent crude oil was trading at $US126. 70 per barrel and gold was trading at $US1719.64 per ounce.
