Minister to seek information on payout delay claims

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says he will ask insurance companies to reveal how many payout offers to owners of red zoned properties are still being worked out.

The Labour Party's earthquake recovery spokesperson, Lianne Dalziel, says insurers are taking too long to come back to homeowners.

She says property owners can't choose which buyout offer to take until they can compare their insurer's proposal with the Government's.

Red zoned home owners were given nine months to decide whether to accept the Government's buyout, and in some cases there are only a few weeks left.

Mr Brownlee says some of the delay is due to land assessments, required by insurers, that are still being completed and can't be rushed.
