Post quake water restrictions lifted

Christchurch City Council has lifted water restrictions for Christchurch, Lyttelton Harbour and Akaroa, a move the mayor is hailing as a milestone achievement for the city's recovery.

Water restrictions were first introduced for Christchurch and Lyttelton Harbour communities last October, and were reduced last month.

Akaroa had restrictions imposed in December.

Mayor Bob Parker says 5.76 billion of water has been saved while the restrictions have been in place.

He says lifting the restrictions gives everyone a clear indication of where Christchurch and the wider Canterbury region is heading.

Mr Parker says the council is encouraging people to continue to use water wisely.
