Organisers of a petition calling for land damaged by the earthquakes in Christchurch to be made into a reserve say they are enouraged that the Government will look at the idea.

Organisers of the Avon-Otakaro Network presented a petition with more than 18,500 signatures to Christchurch MPs at Parliament earlier this week.

Earthquake recovery acting minister Amy Adams says the Government will consider the proposal.

She said in Parliament that no decision had been made about the long-term future of red zone land, but an Avon River park through the CBD, is one of the anchor projects the Government is working on.

The network says the park would be a souce of recovery and prosperity for Christchurch.
