Decision to demolish cathedral too quick - MP

Christchurch East Labour MP Lianne Dalziel says the decision to demolish the Anglican cathedral in Christchurch was made too quickly.

Demolition of the building has begun and the tower has already been taken down.

The Anglican Church is yet to publicise the reasons behind its decision to demolish.

Ms Dalziel says it is time for the Government to step in and force the church to release its discussion documents.

She says the church needs to recognise the community is divided over the issue and it could help heal the divisions by being open and honest.
