The first restoration and re-opening of a heritage building following the earthquakes has been celebrated in Christchurch.
The Canterbury Club building, on the corner of Cambridge Terrace and Worcester Street, was built in 1873.
After a $4 million restoration, the Category two heritage building was officially reopened by Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee on Friday.
Club president Brent Stanley says significant earthquake strengthening in 2007 helped save the building last year.
