75% take-up of buyout offer, says minister

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister says nearly threequarters of homeowners with land that needs to be abandoned have accepted the Government's buyout offer.

Gerry Brownlee says more than half of those have settled on a price and have been paid out.

Mr Brownlee says the future of 166 Port Hills properties remains uncertain and further geotechnical information is needed before a final decision can be made.

He says those owners will most likely know the fate of their land in early September
