Demolition of Cranmer Courts continues

Demolition work is continuing on the Cranmer Courts building, despite a letter from Christchurch City Council on Thursday asking the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority to put a stop to it.

Supporters trying to save the building say its demolition is a crime against art and architecture under UNESCO conventions.

But a spokesperson for the recovery authority says any change to the current work programme would have to be initiated by the owners, not the authority.

Annabel Sheppard, the lawyer representing the owners, says they are not going to ask for the work to stop.
