Council deadline for valuations extended

The Government has granted Waimakariri District Council a two-year extension to revalue properties, due to the Canterbury earthquakes.

It has approved an order in council allowing the council to extend its deadline for general property revaluations until 1 December 2014, after a request from the council.

The revaluation was originally scheduled to be completed by 1 July last year but was extended until December this year after the quakes.

Land Information Minister Maurice Williamson says due to the number of properties that remain damaged it is not feasible to complete the revaluation by December.

He says the extension will enable the district council to best use its resources for earthquake recovery.
