Christchurch mayor Bob Parker is defending the timing of his new book about the aftermath of the earthquakes when some key infrastructure issues remain unresolved.
The book Ripped Apart, A City In Chaos has left some ratepayers questioning Mr Parker's judgement in releasing a book detailing critisisms of government officials while he is still in office.
However, Mr Parker says the issues are topical and it is important to give context to some high-profile incidents within council or about quake decisions.
"Sometimes, there isn't the space in the media for the full context to be placed around those issues. It's great to have a chance yourself to actually put some of that context, and often that helps people to understand an issue that they thought was very controversial actually may have made good sense."
