Deadline for school responses

[b] Submissions for most of the Government's proposals to shut, merge or move Christchurch schools close on Friday.

Many schools are expected to oppose the $1 billion plan to reorganise the city's schools in the wake of last year's earthquakes.

But Aranui and Hornby High Schools say they will back the Government's plans for their schools because they will improve education.

The Government will announce its decisions in February.

However, the Aranui cluster of schools has until March to respond and there is not yet a firm proposal for the future of Avonside Girls, Shirley Boys and Mairehau High Schools.
