Non-compliant wood burners no longer OK

The Canterbury Regional Council says after two years of leniency for quake-damaged homes, it intends to start reinforcing its policy for non-compliant wood-burners again this winter.

The council's Christchurch Air Plan bans the use of non-compliant wood burners 15 years and older.

Council's air portfolio director Katherine Trought says the council took a flexible approach to the rule over the last two winters, in the aftermath of the the earthquakes but the policy is back in force.

She says people who have older burners need to invest in a cleaner form of heating before winter.
