The principal of a school in eastern Christchurch says he has done all he can to save it from having to merge.

Friday is the final day for five Aranui schools to submit counter-proposals to Ministry of Education plans for them to move onto one site.

One school, Chisnallwood Intermediate, employed a research company to canvass more than 1000 people. It said the survey showed 94% support for keeping the school as it is.

Also, 93% of those questioned disagreed with having senior pupils at the same site as junior pupils.
