A church is to be built on the vacant site where the historic Cranmer Court buildings once stood in Christchurch.
The Majestic Church, established in 1962 and with about 800 members, has purchased the 7183-square-metre site for $10 million.
The earthquake-damaged apartments, which were formerly a school, were demolished in 2012 after a community protest failed to save them.
The Christchurch-based church's senior minister says an insurance payout from its former building funded the purchase.
Leo Hanssen says the church hopes to have the new building completed by 2016.
