EQC email recipient to officially request info

A Christchurch man emailed a confidential Earthquake Commission document in error says he will make requests under the Official Infomation Act to legally obtain the information.

Insurance advocate Bryan Staples was sent the details of 83,000 Canterbury quake claims two weeks ago.

Since then a blogger claims he has received what appears to be the same spreadsheet from a disgruntled EQC employee.

An interim injunction to prevent details from EQC email being distributed will continue until a further order of the High Court.

Mr Staples says he expects to file about 5000 OIA requests on behalf of Christchurch residents to get information that should be publicly available.
