An insurance advocacy service to help earthquake-hit Canterbury policyholders get a fair deal has been unanimously approved by the Christchurch City Council - nearly nine months on from when the council originally proposed the idea.
Councillor Glenn Livingstone says the delay was generated by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, which last week launched its own watered-down version of the service.
Mr Livingstone said on Wednesday it is great to see the council stand united on the issue and push the proposal through despite Government opposition.
The service will be set up by not-for-profit organisations and launched in about a month.
