Rocky's road trip delayed

Plans for a 15 tonne rock which was dislodged during the February 2011 earthquake and bought by NZSki have been delayed due to strong winds.

The rock crashed into the Healthcote Valley home of Phil Johnson in the earthquake and was later purchased by NZSki for $50,000 at a fundraiser auction.

It was removed from the home on Friday and was scheduled to arrive at Mount Hutt Ski Area by the afternoon, but its journey has been delayed.

Mt Hutt Ski Area manager James McKenzie says strong winds of up to 115 kms an hour and snow flurries would make the trip up the mountain too dangerous.

He says fine weather permitting, he hopes the rock will be able to complete its journey by June 15.
