Water back on to almost 97% of Christchurch

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker says water is back on to almost 97% of the city following last month's earthquake.

He says the last 3-4% of properties will be the hardest to reconnect.

Mr Parker says a boil water notice remains in place, and is likely to do so until at least Friday because parts of the water reticulation system are still compromised.

Water pressure is not as high as it should be so residents are still being asked to limit their water usage, he says.

There is a total ban on garden watering across the city.
