Construction has begun of an interment site for the remains of unidentified victims of the Christchurch earthquake.
The site at the Avonhead Cemetery was blessed by Ngai Tahu representatives on Monday.
Work is due to be completed by December.
Of the 181 victims of the quake on 22 February, the remains of four people who died in the collapsed CTV building were never found.
They were Shawn Lucas, Rhea Sumalpong, Elsa Torres de Frood and Valeri Volnov and the site will also serve as a memorial to them.
