Neighbours of a Christchurch high-rise are being evacuated while work is carried out to make the building safe from future earthquakes.

Engineers carrying out repairs discovered the 11-storey apartment block on Oxford Terrace posed a threat to adjacent buildings.

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority says neighbouring tenants have until Monday to remove their belongings before work is carried out to make the apartment block safe.
