CBD plan for regeneration urged

Christchurch Casino chief executive Brett Anderson says the city needs to press ahead with a cohesive plan for the regeneration of the central business district.

An engineering report by Tonkin Taylor has cleared the land in the central city although more robust foundations or ground improvements may be required.

Mr Anderson says some property and business owners have spent nine months with no revenue and will be keen to start building right away.

But he says there is a risk that unless there is an overall plan for development, this could result in a piecemeal approach.

If the development is not done well, Mr Anderson says it could discourage people and businesses from returning to the city centre.
