Alternative church venues for Christmas in Christchurch

Church-goers in Christchurch have to seek alternative locations to celebrate Christmas this year.

February's earthquake damaged dozens of churches and many have since been demolished.

The Catholic diocese can't use half of its 32 churches, meaning several communities are sharing the services.

The congregation from the demolished St Paul's Trinity Pacific Presbyterian Church will sing carols on Christmas Day on the empty site where their church once stood.

And Christchurch Cathedral has moved its services to Christ College's Chapel, with evensong to be held on Christmas Day in the Botanical gardens.

An annual childrens and animals service, which takes place on Thursday at 3pm has been shifted to the temporary dome in Hagley Park.
