The Earthquake Commission says it has received 7400 claims since 23 December when several strong quakes, including one of magnitude 6, struck Christchurch.
The quakes in September 2010 and in February last year generated 150,000 claims.
Fifty thousand claims were lodged after the quake on 13 June last year and 18,000 after the tremor on 26 December 2010.
