Insurance companies and EQC to do joint assessments

The Earthquake Commission says it will carry out joint assessments with insurance companies on damaged properties in Canterbury, where there are significant differences between what each party has assessed the earthquake damage as.

EQC customer services general manager Bruce Emson says the commission and insurers are working closely to resolve costing and apportionment issues.

Mr Emson says the difference in assessments reflects the complexity of the work.

IAG Canterbury Recovery executive general manager Dean MacGregor says the involvement of several parties in the assessment process provides challenges.

He says the new approach will speed up the process for customers.
