A Christchurch woman who was on a bus crushed by rubble in last February's earthquake says her anger over the deaths caused by an unsafe building is just beginning to hit her.
The building on Colombo Street collapsed onto the bus, killing eight passengers and four nearby pedestrians.
Ann Brower survived but says she is angry about what she has learnt at the Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission this week.
She says on Wednesday council staff gave evidence that the building was unsafe but indicated that heritage issues had stalled its demolition.
However, Ms Brower says on Thursday staff admitted they had special powers under the Canterbury Earthquake Resource Management Act Order 2010 to do the work.
She says she has always known her fellow passengers should not have died but says it has never been as starkly demonstrated as it was this week.
