District court juries sit again in Christchurch

9:58 pm on 13 February 2012

Jury trials resumed at Christchurch District Court on Monday morning, for the first time since last February's earthquake.

The Justice Ministry says from Monday a full range of court services is operating for the first time since the earthquakes.

Jury summons for the trials starting on Monday and over the coming weeks were first sent in December.

Five courtrooms are now in use at the main Durham Street courthouse and a new courthouse will open on Cambridge Terrace next month, predominantly for High and District Court jury trials.

For the past year, Christchurch District Court trials have been held in alternative venues across the southern region, including in prison.
