7:29 pm on 9 April 2018

Two men have been arrested for stealing equipment from a South Canterbury farm which was under quarantine.

The farm in Morven had been isolated to prevent the spread of the cattle disease mycoplasma bovis.

Police said the men, aged 30 and 32, took farm bikes, chainsaws, quad bikes, a ride-on mower and tools.

Sergeant Kevin McErlain of the Timaru police tactical crime unit, said they have recovered two farm bikes, generators, and power tools in Timaru, Geraldine, and Pleasant Point.

One of the men is due to appear the Timaru District Court today.
