Star batsman Kane Williamson is in doubt for New Zealand's final Cricket World Cup pool game against Bangladesh in Hamilton on Friday, after being laid low with a stomach virus.

It's been confirmed Williamson, who is New Zealand's second leading run-scorer at the tournament, was one of the players who fell ill after Sunday's win over Afghanistan in Napier.

The 24-year-old missed training on Wednesday.

Spinner Daniel Vettori and all-rounder Grant Elliot, who were also hit by the virus, did take part in training as did fast bowler Adam Milne, who suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday's match.

Tom Latham is Williamson's likely replacement.
