Jones sneaks into canoe slalom semis

New Zealand kayaker Luuka Jones had to sweat before her place in the K1 canoe slalom semifinals was confirmed at the London Olympics.

Jones was 10th after her first run with 15 to qualify, but had a disappointing second run at the Lee Valley White Water Centre and just snuck in as the last qualifier on Monday.

Team manager Les Dawson says it was a nerve-wracking time, however Jones is capable of paddling a lot better.

The 23-year-old from the Bay of Plenty is ranked 54th in the world.

It is her second Olympic campaign; she finished last of 21 paddlers at the Beijing Games in 2008.

Meanwhile, Mike Dawson has qualified for the men's semifinals.
