Farquhar in javelin final

Stuart Farquhar of New Zealand qualified for the men's Olympic javelin final on Wednesday with his first throw of 83.32m.

He was the only athlete to make the qualifying mark of 82m with his first throw.

Farquhar qualified third in his group behind Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway who threw 84.47m and Spiridon Lebesis of Greece who threw 82.40m.

Farquhar qualified sixth overall.

Vitezslav Vesely from the Czech Republic threw the furthest with a distance of 88.34.

The final is on Saturday.
