Georgians gather for Auckland protest

6:50 pm on 13 August 2008

Members of the Georgian community have gathered at Auckland's Britomart transport centre to protest at Russia's attack on their home country.

About 40 Georgians held placards on Wednesday afternoon reading "Red Army Go Home" and "Hands off Georgia".

They also sang songs and yelled "Russia's gift for the Olympic Games is bloody Georgia".

Organisers say they want to show the world that they are supporting their people back home.
