The columnist and housing campaigner, Owen McShane, has died at the age of 70.

Mr McShane studied architecture and town planning and spent many years campaigning for affordable housing during New Zealand's many housing booms.

He also ran a company that supplied easy-to-assemble modular housing to provide low cost accommodation for people being priced out of the housing market.

In later years, Mr McShane was a columnist for Metro Magazine and The National Business Review.

He was also a high-profile climate change sceptic.
