Large cocaine syndicate shut down

8:25 pm on 7 March 2012

A multi-million dollar cocaine ring that had been using New Zealand as a stop off point between Brazil and Australia has been shut down by the police.

Two kilograms of cocaine, worth $1.5 million and destined for Australia, was seized at Auckland airport last week.

Four people, Australians and Brazilians, have been arrested as a result of the Australasian wide crack-down.

Three of those arrests were made in New Zealand.

Detective Inspector Bruce Good says Australian authorities seized another 18 kilograms of the drug.

But he says the seize has only put a dent in the drug trade.
