Farms still without power in storm hit areas

A South Taranaki farmer still without electricity supply six days after a major storm is unable to operate water pumps and is worried about his stock.

Paul Pedersen's Waitotara farm is one of about 1300 properties in Whanganui and South Taranaki still without power on Thursday after lines were brought down in Saturday's storm.

Lines company Powerco has said it could be another week before some of the more isolated properties are reconnected.

Mr Pedersen says water pumps cannot be operated without power and he may have to move his stock from their usual paddocks to gullies which have a streams.

Federated Farmers says it's been unable to get an accurate picture of the number of farms affected, but emergency water deliveries are continuing to farms that have been unable to pump water for stock.
