Maori Council bids for urgent freshwater claim hearing

The Waitangi Tribunal will hear on Monday why the Maori Council's claim on water should be heard under urgency.

The application is asking the inquiry to uphold the rights of tangata whenua over freshwater resources.

The council filed its claim last month, asking to take control of fresh water resources, which it says Maori had before European settlement.
