Oceania resthome workers on strike again

10:04 am on 19 March 2012

Workers at New Zealand's largest resthome chain are striking for the third time on Monday.

Aged care staff at Oceania are taking the action, after members of the Nurses' Organisation and the Service and Food Workers Union rejected the company's latest pay offer of 3.2%. The union is seeking 3.5%.

The union says Oceania was invited to mediation talks with workers, but failed to show.

Union advocate Alastair Duncan says Oceania is holding on to public money given by the Government annually and this should be passed on to workers.

Staff will strike for four hours on every shift which begin at 3am, 9am and 4pm at 22 workplaces throughout the country.
