Not all happy with changes to capital bus routes

Residents living in Wellington's outer suburbs are upset over plans for an overhaul of bus routes.

The regional council is looking at changing every route in Wellington and cutting some lesser-used services to run more buses along the main roads more often.

It says the changes will mean 75% of people will be within a 10-minute walk of a major bus route, compared with 58% at present.

However, 10% of people will have to catch a second bus at one of the six interchanges planned across the city.

The chair of the Miramar Mapuia Progressive Association, Robin Boldarin, says it is not fair on the elderly having to swap buses.

The council says more work needs to be done on the plans for the outer suburbs and the new routes will not be in place until next year.
