Musician to stand trial for ear-flicking

6:23 am on 22 August 2008

A professional musician will stand trial for flicking his son's ears, under the recently passed child discipline law.

James Mason, 49, appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday morning on two charges of assault and was committed to stand trial.

A member of the public reported him to police in December last year.

The boys were aged two and five at the time.

Mr Mason is defending the charges.

He was remanded on bail to reappear in court in October for a trial date to be set.
