Nearly a quarter of Auckland's local board members are calling on the city's council to take immediate action in the ongoing dispute on Auckland's waterfront.
On Wednesday, Ports of Auckland and the Maritime Union agreed to resume mediation talks following a hearing with an Employment Court judge.
However the following day the port company issued a new lockout notice to the workers, set to take effect early April, and is not saying when it will allow employees to return to work.
Michael Wood of the Puketapapa local board says the management and board of the port company don't seem to want to settle the dispute.
"They're just winding the dispute up further. We're saying that the governing body and the mayor need to take action now.
"It's a strategic issue for Auckland, it's not just operational."
Of 140 local board members, 32 supported the call for intervention.
