Dunedin Hospital still in lockdown

9:03 pm on 23 August 2008

Dunedin Hospital remains in lockdown due to an outbreak of norovirus.

The wards were closed last Saturday. More than 150 patients and staff at Dunedin and Wakari Hospitals have been diagnosed with the virus, leading to the cancellation of more than 2,000 outpatient appointments.

Eighteen patients remain in isolation at Dunedin Hospital.

Otago District Health Board says visiting restrictions will remain in place through the weekend, but all elective activity should resume on Monday.

Operations manager Megan Boivin says rescheduling all the cancelled appointments will be a logistical challenge.

All restrictions at Wakari Hospital were lifted on Thursday.
